I had a brief foray into kayaking back around 1981, but life took a different turn. But in 1996 I purchased a used kayak and gear from River Runners Emporium and have been paddling regularly since then. After switching to a job where I have more time, I've stepped up my kayaking in the past couple of years. In other outdoor sports, I'm also an avid cycle tourist, having travelled solo through most of Western Europe. In my professional life I'm the infrastructure architect and CISO for an insurance company in Chapel Hill, as well as a contributor to a number of open-source projects. In past lives I've been a network engineer and software tester. I also currently volunteer with the American Red Cross doing technology support, and maintain a few web pages for another non-profit. My only goal as webmaster is to continue to increase communication amongst our members and the boating community at large thorugh our web presence.
